Six Matches of Pure Cricket: Every Run Counts in This Do-or-Die Mission as the Lady Chevrons Fight for World Cup Dreams

Zimbabwe Women are set to face another stern international test when they host West Indies Women in a six-match white-ball series in Harare later this month. This tour, which includes three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is), represents a significant milestone in Zimbabwe’s busy international programme. The team has already undertaken demanding tours to New Zealand and Pakistan and is currently engaged in a testing five-match T20I series against South Africa Women in Bulawayo.

The three ODIs, which form a crucial part of the ICC Women’s Championship, are scheduled to be played at the Harare Sports Club on September 24, 27, and 30. Following the conclusion of the 50-over format, the teams will relocate to the Takashinga Cricket Club for the T20I leg, with matches slated for October 3, 5, and 7.

This upcoming series arrives at a pivotal time for Zimbabwean cricket. While the team has demonstrated promising progress throughout 2026, navigating a demanding schedule against high-calibre opposition remains an essential component of their development. The current assignment against a strong Proteas side has provided the Lady Chevrons with valuable insights, exposing them to the intensity and tactical acumen of experienced international players.

Givemore Makoni, the managing director of Zimbabwe Cricket, emphasised that hosting a side of the West Indies’ stature is vital for the continued growth of the women’s game in the country.

“We are delighted to welcome West Indies Women to Harare for what promises to be an exciting series,” said Makoni.

“Regular exposure to high-quality international cricket is vital to the development of Zimbabwe Women and playing a side of West Indies’ stature gives our players another opportunity to test their skills, learn and build the experience and confidence they need to become more competitive.”

The ODIs hold particular weight for Zimbabwe as they continue their campaign in the ICC Women’s Championship. This competition serves as a primary pathway towards qualification for major global tournaments, and every match is critical in their quest to improve their standing on the international stage. Furthermore, the series offers the team a vital opportunity to test their technical progression against established opposition across both 50-over and T20 formats.

Under the leadership of captain Josephine Nkomo, who recently took the helm earlier this year, the team has been focusing on consistency and tactical discipline. The squad’s recent performances, including a victory against Namibia in a T20I tri-series, suggest that the side is capable of challenging strong opponents. However, the upcoming series against the West Indies will be a different level of challenge, requiring the squad to adapt quickly and refine their strategies under sustained pressure.

The fixtures are arranged to maximise the competitive experience for the players. The first ODI is scheduled for September 24 at Harare Sports Club, with the match starting at 9.30am. The second ODI will follow at the same time on September 27, with the third concluding the ODI portion of the tour on September 30. The focus will then shift to the T20I series, beginning at Takashinga Cricket Club on October 3, with the first match starting at 1pm. The remaining two T20I matches are scheduled for October 5 and 7, both starting at noon, providing local fans with ample opportunity to support the home team as they aim to test their mettle against world-class opposition.
